Getting a duplicate license file
Ok, a frequent use case is going to be a machine that you had to wipe and need a duplicate license file. No problem!
To watch a screencast of these instructions follow this link.
Installation
Installation is just like before. Once the license manager application launches you may simply select the lic3 file from your previous installation (if you backed it up!), or click the link again.
You must login to the account site just like before, but now you see a new screen showing that the hardware id you are attempting to register is already in use and allowing you to download the license again.

Looks familiar? Download the license file and select it once again in the License Manager application.
You should now see the same Valid License dialog as before.

That's it.

I'm a one person company. I need to travel once a month and was planning on setting up a laptop with all my development tools so I don't have so much downtime. Is this new License manager going to force my to purchase two licenses or constantly deactivating and reactivating each time switch systems?
This sounds more like a License per development computer than it does a License per developer.

We still hold true to the 2 installs per developer arrangement. When you purchase a license you are still allowed to install it on a desktop and a laptop. The new licensing system still respects this. So in short no. You will only need one license in your situation.

Remember we are developers too. We know what people go through. It is not uncommon to have two machines for a single developer. Try to explain that to some other tools vendors. I have had to uninstall / reinstall on desktop to laptops in the past with some tools. What a pain.
We have no concurrent user detection system. Ideally you would want something like what WholeTomato has where you can install as many times as you like, but it detects when you have two machines running with the same key and shuts them down. We don't have that ability with the current product. But I feel it is a much better solution that forcing a single install.
And remember - the runtime is free. Most database companies charge for their runtime distribution or a per install basis.
The cost to deploy VistaDB to 100 user locations is $0. Try that with a lot of other databases...

I was not aware of the 2 installs per developer. That's great news. Thanks.

Yes, we give two installs per developer. If you dual boot XP and Vista on one machine that still only counts as a single license. We REALLY try hard to be fair, honest!
And yes the Filename has a VS2005 in the name because that is the name of the DLL. We use the same designer for 2005/2008. So there is no need to worry if you only have 2008 on a machine so still go through same procedure (question asked by PM on forums).
