Office update, NUnit outsourcing and hiring information

Moved

We are all moved in the new office now - phew.  One friend recently told me that this is something we will look back on in five years and still hate.  That pretty much sums it up.  The move actually went pretty darn smooth with internet, power, permits, etc.  But it was still such a major disruption and pain to actually pack and unpack (run cables, routers, UPCs, etc).

Here is a picture of the new office from the outside.

The sign is up!  I guess we can be officially moved in now.

NUnit and SQL outsourcing

We have been discussing internally our development schedule and time estimates.  Some of the things that sit heavy with us is compliance testing (against SQL Server) and code coverage through NUnit tests.  Both of these take a lot of time, and really do not add to the core product at all.  Fixing the problems found from them does help improve the product.

We have decided to outsource the generation of some compliance suites and are interviewing companies for this role now.  It will offload us to focus on the engine, and let a third party deal with the sql compliance tester.  What we hope to have created is a tool that will automatically call SQL code across SQL Server and VistaDB databases and compare the results.  It will give us the best indication of where we are lacking in syntax, and ensure we are accurate for results as well.

We will be discussing it much more as we go forward in the process.

Hiring - In house staff

VistaDB is hiring in house programmer(s).  We are looking for local candidates only (or people who want to move to Mount Dora / Orlando area).  So you may see an ad from us on Monster.com soon.

Our goal is to find an early career programmer who is energetic and willing to learn.  VistaDB just passed the 10 year mark in business, but we are still young in terms of products.  There really is no schooling to prepare you for writing an engine of this size and scale.  Lots of places teach how to use SQL, but not how to write a parser or an engine.  The key for us is going to be finding someone who understands managed code, and the why behind the science in computer science.
