VistaDB 2.0 (Beta 3) status

April 16th, 2004

Beta 3 will be a significant release. It encompasses many new improvements and some new functionality including the following:

  • Removal of an internal layer of code to streamline connectivity between the VistaDB Data Provider, Direct Data Access Objects and the core engine. This was one of the prime goals for Beta 3.
  • New and improved Direct Data Access architecture to closely resemble ADO.NET methods and properties. This makes it more intuitive to use VistaDB DDA objects.
  • New ability to set formal Relations using Foreign Keys. Includes new options in Data Builder.
  • New ability to use SQL statements directly from Data Builder.
  • New GUID data type
  • New SQL Data Definition Language (DDL) support to let you create and manage data structures via SQL (i.e. ALTER, DROP etc.)
  • New User Defined Function (UDFs) support for setting default values

We are almost complete with all the code changes and we want to take a few days to test and polish the code set before releasing. Depending on where the Beta 3 code is next week, we may release an interim "preview" Beta 3 build.

We expect a public release of Beta 3 the week of April 26th.
