News ArticleVistaDB 2.0 (Beta 3) delayedJune 11th, 2004We have been trying to get the full VistaDB 2.0 (Beta 3) build released for several days but we simply need more time. Here's what's going on: We have an internal SQL test app called "SpeedTest" that we use to run 75+ complex SQL statements against VistaDB. SpeedTest lets us know the exact record count to expect for each query, and it helps us gauge overall performance. Our latest B3 code set is not passing this test. Furthermore, using this test we have uncovered some subtle data conversion issues. Yesterday we assigned everyone to help with this issue. Today, we had a meeting and the team decided the best thing to do was re-write a section of code in the SQL engine in order to eliminate some questionable code that may be affecting moving data between unmanaged and managed. We have now started that process which will take 10-14 days to complete. Beta 3 is close and the temptation to release is there, but really, we'd be doing everyone a disservice. Sorry for the inconvenience but we don't want to release software that is obviously not ready for public use. We need everyone to hang in there while we finish the needed work on B3. |
