News ArticleVistaDB 3.0 Roadmap UpdateOct. 22nd, 2006The following is an update to where we are with VistaDB 3.0 and what we have planned for upcoming 3.0 releases. We will be exposing on the missing ALTER support for the next two weeks and expect to have that feature in the Nov. 10th update to 3.0. This will enable developers to modify schemas from code and from within DataBuilder. We are currently working on both engine and SQL optimization which should boost performance on Views and other SQL-related actions. We are polishing DataBuilder and the Data Migration Wizard to help move and manage data more efficiently than ever before. We are looking to add some of the supported databases in the VistaDB 2.x Data Migration Wizard into 3.0 and extend DMW to allow for data merge capabilities. The new data merge support will lead us into data synchronization for mobile databases. We will try to get the full data synchronization for applications running on the Compact Framework that need to synchronize with desktop and server databases into 3.0, but this feature may slip to 3.x. After the Nov. 10th 3.0 CTP update, we will be adding Transaction Processing support and creating the .NET 1.1 and Mono data providers. By the way, we have VistaDB 3.0 running on Mono today! More on Mono support soon. We have decided to push the SQL Stored Procs into a 3.x update rather than risk holding up the 3.0 release. We feel it is better to polish and optimize the current 3.0 feature set rather than over extend ourselves into adding lightly tested new functionality. As is its now, 3.0 is looking very stable and the few bug reports we've received have been quickly addressed. The low number of bug reports is very encouraging and is a clear indication that 3.0 has been designed and built very well. We feel very confident in 3.0 and encourage all of you to run this current build through its paces. The really great thing for us with VistaDB 3.0 is that we are able to address reported issue with extreme confidence and efficiency. VistaDB 3.0 is written entirely in C# and the code set it's very well organized. We are using AQTime and Lattix LDM to help optimize our code and isolate problems before they get into shipped into releases. As a side note, check out this interesting review of our VistaDB 3.0 architecture by Ralf Westphal. Since 1999, this is by far our most productive and efficient development environment we have ever had and as can be experienced first hand, all of these positive factors have made VistaDB 3.0 a world-class product. As far as release schedule, it looks like we are on track for 3.0 release in late January. VistaDB 3.0 represents many years of hard work and if you haven't already purchased or upgraded to VistaDB 3.0, we would love to see you get your copy today. On behalf of the entire team, we invite you to see 3.0 first hand! You can order VistaDB 3.0 securely online here. VistaDB 3.0 Features
