I've been meaning to write a success story for you guys and finally found time to do it. To anyone reading this, I can say without hesitation that VistaDB is awesome. The support is excellent and its clear that the Vista guys really care about their product. I'm a VB.NET developer building ASP.NET apps and I've used Access FoxPro and Paradox for many years.

First, and most important for us, using VistaDB is no harder than copying 2 small files to your bin directory, instantiate a class object and write four lines of code, and you're done. It can't get any easier than that. So by doing this what happens? You now have EVERY direct database command available to you to work natively on the database without having to write a paragraph long SQL statement just to update a record and then spend hours trying to find the typo. Can you still use your old SQL? The answer is yes.

A huge feature for me is that I can run VistaDB on a SHARED HOSTED server. I used Access for many years and I can say that VistaDB beats Access hands down for writing ASP.NET apps. I have several applications that we have written that are currently running on a hosted server because VistaDB doesn't need to have anything registered on their server, which isn't going to happen, and because you don't need to convince a client he needs a web server. We are currently running 15 people on a hosted server using VistaDB with an ASP.NET application without degradation. We have tested on a local dedicated server with as many as 50 users and haven't seen this product lag yet. Try doing that with Access.

It's a dream not having to write connection strings, SQL statements, and deal with all that. How about moving the cursor by one command 'next()'? Full support for ALL datatypes BLOB Memo varChar…. Its own high speed datareader for faster opening reads on the data. Using filters and indexes is just writing one line of code. Online searches run fast, REAL FAST! How hard to find a record? One line of code. Find(). VB.NET has always been a nice front end for work but now with this product it's like having a built in database for both WinForms and WebForms. VB can now operate as if writing in a FoxPro application except with an optimized engine PERFECT for the web and .NET.

Listen up VB.NET and ASP.NET people you have to try this yourself and you'll see exactly what I'm saying is true. No one is going to BS you. Once you start using the product yourself you'll see that EVERYTHING I've said is true in five minutes. Get VistaDB and you won't regret it!
